PHUNKY PHRESH started spinning at 16, coming up through Tokyo’s underground scene with Hip Hop, R&B and Soul before taking his sound overseas to Boston and New York. After returning to Japan, he dove deep into the world of dance music — from Breaks and House to Techno and everything in between — while keeping the raw energy and technical spirit of Hip Hop and turntablism at the core. As a member of Escapism Records, alongside DJ Grinch, he developed a reputation for crossing musical boundaries without losing the groove. Today, PHUNKY PHRESH represents a completely open approach to DJing. No strict genre, no predetermined formula. His sets move freely between sounds, styles and eras, driven by instinct, rhythm and the energy of the room.
